On Sunday, February 9th, the Parish of the Valley hosted Bishop John Watton and Archdeacon Terry Cains from the Diocese of Central Newfoundland. Visiting the Diocese of Ottawa for several days to learn more about our Area Parishes, Bishop Watton and Archdeacon Cains joined us for Sunday worship at Holy Trinity, Pembroke and St Stephen's, Micksburg.
Members from eleven of the churches in our Parish then all came together at the farm of Myles and Lucy Buttle in Micksburg. Myles and Lucy graciously opened their home to nearly 100 parishioners who all came with food and ready for some fellowship. We enjoyed a potluck feast before toasting Bishop Watton and Archdeacon Cains with Valley Moonshine and, in Newfoundland fashion, inviting them to kiss the Valley pickrel and become honourary members of the Parish of the Valley!
Following lunch, we were treated to some special music from The Intermittents, who were joined on guitar and spoons by our guests. The tractor was hitched up to the sleigh for sleighrides around the farm, stopping at a halfway point for some skating or to enjoy sitting around the bonfires. Others tried out the snowshoe trails and enjoyed some peaceful time in God's creation.
What a wonderful first Winter Gathering and Kitchen Party for the Parish of the Valley! Thank you to everyone who came and enjoyed being together as a Parish family. Special thank you to The Intermittents for your music, and to the Buttle's for opening your home and your farm and hosting us all!
G'day from the Valley!
